The Rocket Stove is a new innovative design for the Stoves Subteam within the BLUElab Sa' Nami' Collaborative, an organisation that serves the low-income rural families in Guatemala.
BLUElab Sa' Nima' Collaborative

The Sa' Nima' Collaborative is a student-run organization by the University of Michigan's BLUElab. Along with our partner NGO, CasaSito, we focus on identifying and executing sustainable development solutions in rural Guatemala. The team conducts needs assessments in the home communities of various CasaSito-sponsored students in Alta Verapaz, Guatemala. This 2024-2025 year, we aim to continue our Stoves project, and begin a new Water Collection project for the families. Additionally, the team also partners with a group of CasaSito-students in Panorama, Antigua to establish an engineering club for students to learn about the principles of socially-engaged design.
Stoves Subteam

The stoves project addresses a critical issue affecting CasaSito Scholar families, where firewood cooking expenses consume approximately 30% of household incomes while producing harmful smoke that poses long-term respiratory health risks. The project aims to design an efficient cooking solution that reduces both smoke inhalation and financial burden, ultimately improving the health and well-being of these families.
